Postal Card #4 : magic Auvergne .
On this Monday, first work and school day for most of all, I’d like to share with you our favorite holiday moments in Auvergne (in the central part of France). I hadn’t been there for thirty years and it’s been a big (re)discovering!
We were enchanted by this area, which is ideal for family holidays as it combines nature, culture and play activities ! A magical week…
We were mainly in Clermont-Ferrand area as we stayed in Royat, a small thermal resort just 5 minutes away. So this post is not about the whole Auvergne but just a glimpse of what we did during our holidays !

Spectacular nature
Auvergne is renowned for its lakes, volcanoes… et majestic pine and oak forests… An incredible place for walking and bathing !

We’ve particularly loved the Chambon’s Lake, not far from Clermont-Ferrand, the Puy de Dôme and all the majestic woods.
Architecture
Royat is a bathing town which was well-known during Second Empire : you can admire its beautiful old thermal baths, the Eugénie’s pump room… and all its lovely villas! Let’s walk through the Old Royat!
We also appreciated a lot Old Clermont and its splendid historical black stone buildings
Cultural and playful activities
Lots of activities for children in Auvergne!
Murol’s fortified castle : restored, furnished, and with big wax characters. Kids were enchanted!
Le Royatonic : Thermal playful battes with a Jet swimming-pool, jacuzzi… for the whole family (from 6 years-old)
Wave swimming-pool in Chamalières : Playful for kids (all ages). Open all along the year.
And, of course, Vulcania, to know all about volcanoes while playing! Both funny and interesting for kids from 5 years-old.
I hope this family report will give you good ideas and tips to go in Auvergne during your next family holidays!
