Quiet and relaxing family holidays in Portugal

During our last Autumn break, we went to Cascais, a pretty Portuguese beach town, near Lisbon. where the Martinhal family hotel invited us for a few days. I would like to share with you these sweet memories and give you tips and addressses for a wonderful family stay.

During this break, we enjoyed both the hotel’s amenities, specially designed for families and the absolutely beautiful area.

The Martinhal Hotel is perfect for families who want to combine calm, comfort, aesthetics and family life. The equation doesn’t seem quite evident, yet this Portuguese hotel company (settled in Lisbon, Cascais and Sagres ) manages to mix in a subtle way refined aesthetics and comfort for family life. Everything is very accessible to children, even to the youngest, as well in the living areas of the hotel (restaurant with children’s buffet, playground, kids club with activities according to the age, spa with special bodycare for children, …), as in the rooms (footstool, toilet adapter secured access to the staircase, …). Every family member can really relax and enjoy quality time! We all truly appreciated these quiet and relaxing days!

Besides, the hotel is located in the heart of a natural park and it’s perfectly integrated to its environment. Outdoor activities are numerous in the hotel gardens : large welcoming playground, several swimming pools (heated up during Autumn and Spring days),  bike renting, excursions or golf classes. The ocean is just a few minutes from the hotel, by bike. You can also plan a journey to visit the beautiful area of Sintra.

We also loved Cascais which has remained a very typical village despite the many tourists during summer days (this is why I truly prefer off-season to go to the seaside !) … Quiet but lively beaches, flowery streets, small shops and typical restaurants … tthe city is absolutely charming!

After these restful days by the sea, we joined Lisbon for two days, also at the Martinhal hotel, located in the heart of the vibrant and arty Chiado district. We took advantage of all the conveniences of this family hotel (baby sitter and kids’club at night among other things) and wandered through the streets of Lisbon with as much pleasure as we used to two years ago (I had already written a post about Lisbon here (with many addresses : shopping, restaurants, kids friendly spots )… I would add to this last post, three very good addresses we’ve just tested these days : Zero Zero, perfect pizzeria for a family lunch; Landeau Chocolate for a gourmet stop in the heart of Chiado and an excellent Japanese restaurant: Tasca Kome.

You can also find other favourite spots on my Instagram account in my archived story called “Portugal” 🙂 … The rest in pictures …
