Today, I’m so happy to start again our family interviews on Sweet Cabane! and to  go to Northern Italy and meet Federica and Lorenzo. Federica, 41, is a graphic designer and a photographer. Lorenzo, 39, works as a chemist for a multinational corporation. They have two children : Giacomo, 9, and Martino, almost 3.

They live in the countryside, close to a small town called Reggio Emilia (famous for its educational approach), in a classic large Italian country house, where Federica was born and raised and where her parents and her sister’s family live too.

Federica tells us about her family life here and gives us lots of great ideas about simple educational ideas.

IN THE CITY

Our town is very small which I love because there’s not much bustle and everything is reachable on foot. It’s a perfect city when you have kids : Reggio Emilia is known around the world for its wonderful kindergartens with a typical “Reggio Emilia Approach. I don’t know if it’s actually the best in the world but I really love it by experience !! During the year, many children’s events are also organized around the city.

We like going into town on Saturday morning : we walk, have breakfast and go to the market to buy fresh fruit and vegetables. We also stop for lunch at Mangiamore, a vegetarian and vegan restaurant where we can also buy books and games. It’s very kids friendly and relaxing.

AT HOME

I don’t really love cooking and, if I can, I never do ;). Luckily my husband loves to do it and, when he is at home, he cooks for us. So, I don’t have great recipes…  Luckily my kids love raw vegetable and here, in the summer, there is plenty of it! Anyway, we are Italians : pasta with tomato sauce with fresh basil is always a great idea 😉 !!!

When we are at home, my kids’ favorite activity is Lego. Giacomo, the eldest, spends hours building imaginary machines. Painting with watercolor, jumping on beds and reading books are also  in our top ten!

Martino is a very little boy and he loves picture books above all, mainly about tractors. Other favourite book at the moment : Olga and Olaf.

Giacomo at this time is completely fascinated by the Harry Potter collection and so am I. Every night before going to sleep, we read it together and I really enjoy this moment!
