For this last post of the year 2018, I’d love to share with you my favourite Christmas cake’s own recipe. I usually bake this cake for Christmas breakfast. It is very tasty due to this subtle mix of caramel, orange and cinnamon … It can also be a simple and aesthetical dessert for New Year’s Eve …

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Baking time: 35 minutes
Ingredients :
For the cake:
- 170 g flour
- 4 eggs
- 150 g of butter
- 150 g of sugar
- 10 cl orange juice + orange peel (1 whole orange)
- 1 orange to cut in thon slices and let dry
- 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 pinch of salt
For the caramel sauce :
- 100 g of sugar
- 5 cl of orange juice (1/2 orange)
- 30 g of butter
**
Before making the dough, dry the orange : cut it in very thin slices, soak it up with a cloth, then put the slices on the oven rack for 1h30 to 100 degrees celsius.
The dough:
Preheat your oven to 170 ° C. In a large bowl, mix eggs and sugar. Whip it until the mixture whitens, then add the juice and orange zest. Gradually add the flour, then the baking powder. Add salt and cinnamon and mix well. Melt the butter and add to the mixture. Pour the dough into the mold of your choice that you have previously buttered or lined with parchment paper.
Bake the cake at 170 ° C for about 35 minutes.
Then let the cake cool. Remove the cake from the tin and make the caramel: cook the sugar in a saucepan with 3 tablespoons of orange juice. Once the caramel is done, add the butter away from the heat, stir and pour over the cake. Immediately place your dried oranges on the cake as a decoration.
That’s it, the cake is ready to be tasted! Be careful your kitten does not eat it before you 🙂
