Last week, we spent four days in beautiful Lisbon. We really fell in love with this heartbeating city, full of energy, constantly evolving between tradition and modernity. In the meantime, the city is very calm and peaceful, perfect for a family journey.
I’d like to share with you here some of the places we loved, restaurants we enjoyed and lovely shops.
We had the opportunity to be invited to the Martinhal Family Resorts, in the heart of Chiado. I have never seen such a well-designed hotel for families! Everything is made for kids and parents’ well-being, but in a stylish way : beautiful contemporary wood furniture, elegant tables with rounded edges, bright and large living-room allowing children to play, premium family equipment (step for kids, bottle warmer, unbreakable tableware …). Several apartment sizes are available depending on the type of family: from studio to apartment with two bedrooms, huge living room, fully equipped kitchen and two bathrooms. The hotel can accommodate even families up to 6 persons.
To complete this ‘family’ approach, there’s a kids’club to take care of the children during the day and the evening in a safe environment. It is perfect for all ages up to 10 years old : games, video projections, climbing wall and a resting area for the little ones. The team is multilingual and very attentive to children’s needs. For those who wish, a babysitting service is also available.
In the hotel, there’s a café, the M bar, also very well designed for kids : menus, crockery, miniature car …
Finally, the hotel’s location is excellent, in the heart of Chiado, the trendiest area in Lisbon, where there’s a lot of great restaurants and bars! Perfect for parents who want to go out at night for a drink while the kids are enjoying a pajama party.
In short, we loved this hotel and I highly recommend it !!
Please note that the earlier you book, the better prices you can obtain … More info here.
What a pleasure to wander through beautiful Lisbon streets in February and to already perceive the first signs of Spring !!
During this four-day family break, we opted for wanders at the expense of the many attractive museums (Museum of Contemporary Art of Chiado, Museum of Fashion and Design, Cultural Center of Belem, …).
- Big crush for the Alfama district: its narrow streets, its white houses, colored by the linen drying at the windows, its orange-trees full of fruits in this season …
- We also loved the Chiado area of course, very lively and arty, with plenty of cafes, restaurants and pretty squares.
- The green area of Principe Real, on the heights of Lisbon, is very peaceful, with great views over the city. There are very nice shops, such as the Embaxaida concept store or the kids shop Mini by Luna. .. Nice and lively restaurants and cafes also (see below)
- What a pleasure to discover the Tagus bank, between Alcantara and Belem areas: from the LX Factory to the Cultural Center of Belem, an unforgettable walk!
- And, do not miss the Belem district: the Monastery, the Botanical Garden, the cultural Center of Belem …

Here are some tested and approved addresses:
In the heart of Chiado:
Pharmacia : a delicious Portuguese restaurant, located in the Pharmacy Museum. Very kids friendly!
Taberna das Flores: delicious gourmet tapas in a traditional tavern. Perfect for couples (harder with kids, as there are only small tables)
Sea Me: delicious fish restaurant, with great sushi and tempura (did you know that tempura donuts were created in Portugal and then exported to Japan?)
Palacio Chiado: a unique place, in a sumptuous palace. Restaurants, nice cocktail bars, … Perfect for a romantic evening!
On Principe Real:
Copenhagen Coffee Lab: a nice café run by Danish girls. Delicious homemade coffee, pastries and sandwiches.
Zero Zero Pizzeria: a lovely pizzeria, with a garden. Perfect with kids.
Big thanks to Hélène Fulchi, creator of Minois Paris who lives now in Lisbon, and to Christèle, La Girafe designer, for their good tips ! This allowed us to have a perfect journey!
See you next Monday to talk about kids’ jewelry …
Lots of love,
