Looking for Summer vibes…

Kids have been back to school for more than two weeks now… We’re already missing holidays slow pace and our ‘non- organisation’ way of life… So last weekend, we just wanted to feel a bit more on holidays, even though we’re living in busy Paris … We decided to have a walk just near the Seine river, on the left bank. We’ve been in love with this area since we were  just lovers, without kids, especially the place between Concorde and the…

Federica & Lorenzo, Northern Italy

Today, I’m so happy to start again our family interviews on Sweet Cabane! and to  go to Northern Italy and meet Federica and Lorenzo. Federica, 41, is a graphic designer and a photographer. Lorenzo, 39, works as a chemist for a multinational corporation. They have two children : Giacomo, 9, and Martino, almost 3. They live in the countryside, close to a small town called Reggio Emilia (famous for its educational approach), in a classic large Italian country house, where Federica was born and raised and where her…

Blackberry bars

When I was a child, I used to go and pick wild blackberries with my mother and my little brother at the end of Summer. So many joyful memories! And now, nothing makes me happier than picking blackberries with my own kids to make some jam or some desserts… It’s a very special moment as we enjoy last days of long summer holidays and already see the first signs of Autumn… Here are some photos of our last picking into…

Going fishing

Just two weeks before going back to school, last August summer days have got a particular taste, full of both excitement and nostalgia… To start again Sweet Cabane’s diary, I’d precisely like to talk about a children book dealing with Summer holidays, childhood and nostalgia : Going Fishing, written and illustrated by French mum of 3, Charlotte Virfolet. It’s part of a book series called ‘Siblings’. Charlotte’s stories are small pieces of art mixing simplicity and poetry and all…

Thinking like a toddler

I  just turned 40 a few months ago … This turn was not easy, I admit, and I often wonder about what it means to “grow old”: is it a  total process, or is it only physical? Are we losing creativity as we get older or is it possible to create throughout our lives? When I heard the words of Paul Lindley during the lecture series organized by the hotel Martinhal Cascais, I loved the idea that aging is first a…

SUMMER SNACK

We are back in our beautiful countryside for long and beautiful summer days with family and (many) friends ! Even if we have more time than usual in this period of the year, it is not always easy to make healthy and tasty snacks for children … This summer, our favorite recipes play the card of simplicity with snacks mainly made up of bread and jam. Thanks to Kitchen Aid’s Cook Processor, I can make good abricot and lavender jam (our favourite) a sweet…

Family story-telling

In our Family Connexion section, we ‘re used to talking about people whose purpose is to  help families and support them through their professional activities or passions. Caroline Albou is at the crossroads : when she launched Porte-Plume in 2008, she decided to combine her passion for writing and publishing to her love for family stories  to transmit precious memories. Initially, Caroline deeply wanted to democratize the edition fiels and gave the opportunity to anybody to make bespoke books. It must be said that since childhood…

Natural beauty

As you may have noticed, I am very much attached to natural products, especially when it comes to children’s care and health.  So what a pleasure to discover Saar Soleares, a very young Dutch brand that works with 100% organic and natural products! Essential oils, flowers and beeswax are the major components of all its products for our little ones, but also for moms. The textures are soft and fragranted, easy to apply. The founder, Saar, developed them as a family recipe…

Florence & Sieg, Normandie

This week, let’s go to Normandy to meet Florence and Sieg. These thirty-something  are the happy parents of three kids, Lilou, 7 years-old , Gabriel, 5, and Jude, 11 months. Florence is a former nursing auxiliary who has stopped working since the birth of her last child, and Sieg is a video editor. Some time ago, these ex-Parisians chose to settle  by the sea and opted for a simpler family life. That’s what Florence is talking about here. *** IN THE CITY What do you like…

Soft linen

Let me introduce you today to a French brand that I’ve been loving since its beginnings and that I particularly appreciate for its know-how, its soft and colorful aesthetic and its made in France manufacture : Lab, and its child fashion version, La Petite Collection. The 100% natural linen materials are mainly cultivated in northern Europe, and its shimmering dyes immediately revive an adult or child room. The manufacture, made in France, is simple and timeless and suitable for all types of interior. Pink…
